January 22- Kids Ministry Basic Training- The JR Team
Need to charge up your battery and fill up your tank as you head down the
road on a brand new year of exciting ministry to the children? Then join us
at Jackson’s Ridge for a one-day refresher course on how to put pizzazz into
your CM Program. We will cover Powerful Praise and Worship, Object Lessons
that Excite, Visual Aids You’ll Never Forget, Creative Ideas for Teaching
Scripture Verses and How to Put it All Together in a Lesson Plan. Cost- R65
per person.
February 19- Meeting the Spiritual Needs of a Child- Ed Corbin
The perfect way to prepare your teachers for the year ahead. This course is
based on the “Why behind what we do?” This could also be called, “The
Theology of Children’s Ministry.” Topics include the spiritual receptivity
of children, the training of children in the home and church, stages of
child development, reaching children at risk, street children, sexually
exploited children, the children of wars, the girl child and children with
HIV Aids. Cost- R70 per person.
April 16- Creative Story Telling Ideas- Ed Corbin and Team
Ed will cover all the basics such as the Story Teller, How to become a good
Story Teller, Good practice makes for a perfect presentation, Where to find
good stories, How to tell a great Bible Story, Using characters to tell
stories, Dramatic story telling, Puppets and story telling, etc. This will
be Ed’s last seminar before a one-year trip to America. Don’t miss it! Cost-
R65 per person.
May 21- Experiential Learning- Jacques van Bommel
Jacques, the games guru, will show you how to lead a child to learn Biblical
truth through doing and experiencing. This will be a hands-on seminar where
you will be participating in a wide variety of learning experiences. You
will learn by doing- the way we all learn best. Jacques will lead you
through a progression of ice-breakers, warm ups, problem solving,
communication activities and trust initiatives. Don’t miss this unusual and
exciting day! Cost- R65 per person.
June 18- Kids in Ministry- The JR Team
Come and learn how to involve your kids in ministry. They can do more than
receive…they can participate and be used by God while they are young. Learn
how to develop a clown team, a puppet team, a sticks and flag team, a
human-video team, a prayer team, an usher team and an outreach team. This is
a first for JR- so don’t miss it! Cost- R65 per person
July 15-16- Clown Camp- Abby Sauter and the JR Team
Abby is a new face at JR and brings with her a wealth of experience in the
field of Christian Clowning. She has been trained by one of America’s
greats, Randy Christenson. Abby will cover all the basics such as clown
faces, make-up, costuming, gags, stunts, skits, age appropriate
presentations, clowning in the church and the community and much more. Cost
to be announced.
August 20- Kids Ministry Outreach Programs- Jan Vorster & Team
Jan is the Children’s Pastor at the Cell Church in Kroonstad and has
developed an incredible program of outreach into the schools, townships and
individual homes. Ed was so totally impressed with Jan’s dynamic kids-based
outreach programs that he invited Jan to come and teach others how to
positively impact their community every day of the week. This seminar is a
must for those with a burden to do more than just teach Sunday School. Cost-
R65 per person.
September 17- Creative Characters- Abby Sauter & the JR Team
Creative Characters, both comedic and dramatic can be a tremendous boost to
your Kids Church program. If you’re not using characters, then it’s time you
begin by developing your very own personal character to teach Bible Stories,
memory verses, introduce the theme or do an object lesson. If you like doing
things that your kids will love, then it’s time to begin using Creative
Characters. Lot’s of demonstrations in this one! Cost- R65 per person.
October 21-23- The JR Puppet Festival- USA Guests & the JR Team
This is highlight of the JR conference schedule. This year, Texas based,
Jimmy Hicks, will be bringing another team of USA children’s pastors to JR.
Our guests will lead all the advanced workshops so get ready for some new
stuff. Adrian and Vanessa Trapani will be directing Beginning Puppetry and
of course there will be another fantastic Saturday Evening Puppet
Extravaganza. Bring your whole puppet team and enter the competition.
This will be one hilarious, fun-filled weekend.
